Controls are not testimony

We ink rubber so we know the ink is working. We do not let rubber testify about clay.

A mat print is a silhouette. Useful. Incomplete. Indoor bays sell silhouettes because they are clean. Iowa golf is not clean. If a shop shows you only a mat, they are showing you a logo. Ask for dirt. If they look offended, you already have your answer.
